Karl Kwon

Dr. Karl Kwon is a Software Engineering Lead at MITRE with over 15 years of experience and a Ph.D. in Computer Science. He combines his expertise and passion for AI and Data Visualization to develop cutting-edge data analytics platforms for the federal government and public sector. Dr. Kwon thrives on tackling complex challenges, transforming obstacles into opportunities, and delivering impactful solutions.

Previously, as a founding engineer at Blackboard Insurance (a tech startup of AIG), he spearheaded the development and implementation of all data visualization platforms using web technologies and cloud services. These platforms generated over $60 million in quoted premiums and empowered data-driven decision-making for insurance products and customers.

Dr. Kwon is also the inventor and founder of ScholarPlot, a data visualization platform for academic research that has been recognized in top international conferences and journals like IEEE, ACM, and Science Advances. His research focuses on data visualization methodologies and systems, exploring how they can enhance our understanding and communication of complex data.
